I honestly congratulate The Korean Doctors’ Weekly releasing the first issue of The Korea Biomedical Review, the nation’s first English newspaper specialized in the healthcare field, in keeping with changes in the media market.

The Korean Doctors’ Weekly has presented new milestones for the domestic media with its sharp diagnoses of the reality facing Korea’s medical sector and provided fresh alternatives. That shows why the paper has established its position firmly in the healthcare media sector based on its expert ability, despite its relative short business history.

As one of its avid readers, I feel regrettable that I will no longer be able to meet the offline editions of your paper which have enjoyed the love of readers over the past 25 years.

However, The Korean Doctors’ Weekly, which started its publication in 1992 with the motto of “Let’s reflect on and reform Korean medical industry,” is now launching its English sister paper to seek new opportunities and to publicize the importance of biomedical and healthcare sector to global readers. I expect the new media outlet will also grow into a specialized paper loved by all readers, local and foreign.

Currently, the bio-healthcare industry has grown to an 8,000 trillion won ($7 trillion) market globally, emerging as the new growth engine by creating high added value and high-quality jobs.

Under this situation, I am confident KBR will serve as a foundation to help domestic healthcare industry develop overseas markets, if it plays the role of a medium, in policy and industry, by linking the local businesses to multinational corporations interested in Korea’s world-class medical technology and the rapid growth of its domestic market.

The Korean Dental Association (KDA) has made various efforts to help skilled Korean dentists advance to overseas markets. Through these efforts, we hope our medical personnel will provide high-quality services abroad, gaining the trust of foreigners and helping to attract foreign patients.

I congratulate the first issue of KBR again and wish good luck to readers of the two sister papers as well as staff members striving to make them more useful and innovative media

Thank you very much.
