Veeva Systems Korea, a cloud-based software provider for pharmaceutical and biotech firms, said it has appointed software expert Shim Hyun-jong as the new general manager.

Shim will oversee Veeva’s business in Korea and lead the R&D cloud software sales in China and the Asia Pacific, the company said.

While working for Medidata Solutions, Shim was in charge of sales in Asia, including Korea, contributing to IT infrastructure building for new drug development at major pharmaceutical firms, contract research organizations (CROs) and research institutes.

Previously working for PTC and Heartbeat Experts, he accumulated expertise in software development and sales.

By recruiting Shim who has more than 16 years of experience in R&D software in the biotech industry, Veeva Systems said it would push for local sales aggressively.

“Shim is expected to contribute greatly to an expansion of Veeva’s customer base in the Asian market including Korea based on his deep understanding and expertise in the life sciences’ R&D market,” said Alex Paris, general manager of Veeva Asia Pacific. “By appointing Shim as the head of the Korean unit, Veeva will do its best to develop strategic partnerships with more local life sciences firms.”

Shim said, “The growth potential of cloud-based solutions in Korea and Asia is enormous, as digitization in the life science and pharmaceutical industries is accelerating. We will continue to expand business in the life sciences R&D software field and provide business solutions to support the innovation of drugmakers’ sales process.”
