Asan Medical Center (AMC) said Friday that the hospital ranked fourth among top contributors to The Thyroid, an official journal of the American Thyroid Association.

According to the recent three-year statistics of Clarivate Analytics, which manages the database of international academic papers, Ulsan Medical University's Asan Medical Center has contributed 31 articles to Thyroid for the past three years, behind Harvard Medical School (42), Mayo Clinic (36) and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (35).

By country, Korea ranked second with 70 research papers published, after the U.S. (268).

“Since the theses published on the Thyroid go through a rigorous procedure regarding the originality of the study, the reliability of the data, clinical utility and the academic value, the result means that the Korean thyroid research has reached a global level,” said Professor Song Young-ki of the department of endocrinology at the hospital.

Song explained Ulsan Medical University’s medical team has achieved the excellent research results by utilizing AMC's abundant clinical data and holding regular discussions among related medical departments such as internal medicine, radiology, and nuclear medicine.
