Myongji Hospital said Thursday that it has concluded an educational cooperation hospital agreement with Hanyang University and has become “Hanyang University Myongji Hospital.”

Myongji Hospital CEO and Chairman Lee Wang-jun (left) and Hanyang University President Lee Young-moo shake hands after signing the cooperative agreement at Hanyang University in Haengdang-dong, Seoul, Tuesday.

Under the accord, Hanyang University and Myongji Hospital will cooperate with the clinical education for medical students, research and academic exchanges, as well as conducting joint clinical trials. The agreement has also restored Myongji Hospital as a university hospital with certain privileges such as appointing professors at Hanyang University Medical College.

Myongji Hospital, which opened in 1987, has been in charge of clinical education for medical students at Kwandong University and Seonam University. However, after Seonam University shut down in February of this year, the hospital has been looking for a university partner.

“We are delighted to start a meaningful relationship with Myongji Hospital, which is establishing a global network both at home and abroad, including its partnership with Mayo Clinic in the United States,” Hanyang University President Lee Young-moo said.

The university expects that the cooperation agreement will serve as a momentum for the two institutions to become a world-class center for all fields, including education, joint research and medical care cooperation, Lee added.

Myongji Hospital also showed confidence in the new cooperative agreement.

“The hospital is pleased to have become a member of Hanyang University, which is emerging as a world-renowned school,” Myongji Hospital CEO and Chairman Lee Wang-jun said. “We will further develop our medical school education hospital experience and system to become an institution that fits the name of a university hospital."
