The Korean Medical Association said it has referred a professor at Jeju National University Hospital to its central ethics committee for allegedly assaulting and verbally abusing hospital employees for years.

The KMA’s board of directors made the decision at a meeting on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, the Jeju branch of the Korean Healthcare Workers' Trade Union (KHWU) under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions revealed video footage of the female professor attacking medical staffs on its Facebook page.

According to the KHWU’s Jeju branch, the professor has repeatedly attacked staffs, by beating them, pinching them, or stepping on them, during patient rounds.

The video on Facebook disclosed the shocking scenes intact.

“Multiple news reports raised suspicion that the professor frequently bullied staffs abusing her superiority over others,” the KMA said. “We decided to refer to her to the committee’s deliberation for punishment, according to Article 11 and 19 of the ethics committee rules.”
