Seoul National University Hospital said it has started the first uninsured procedure for central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) with selective retina therapy (SRT) using Lutronic's R: GEN, a macular laser for retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) regeneration.

The hospital has employed a limited medical technology evaluation system, conditional approval for uninsured medical technology under development needed in the clinical field.

With the approval, CSC patients can receive the SRT at the SNUH until July 2021.

R: GEN's SRT uses real-time feedback technology to treat diseases safely and effectively without damaging the retina and only targeting RPE. The hospital received approved as a limited medical technology institute for SRT using R:GEN from the Ministry of Health and Welfare last year.
