Vuno said that "VUNO Med – DeepBrain," a dementia diagnosis medical device, has received certification from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

The device uses the brain magnetic resonance images for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease by using a pre-learned model, which automatically divides the results for the most relevant areas of the brain, into a viewer or report format. The report provides quantitative measurements and statistical information of significant brain areas associated with dementia, which helps medical workers screen the risks of Alzheimer's dementia based on MRI.

Also, the machine provides the analysis function of white matter hyperintensity, a substance used to diagnose vascular dementia, thereby providing supplementary information for the diagnosis of dementia in a clinical environment.

"For other commercially available products, it takes between 10 minutes and several hours to analyze a patient's brain MR images," a company official said. "However, Vuno's device can analyze the brain image in one minute or less, and can provide immediate results immediately after the patient's MRI."

The device is part of the "Dr. Answer" program supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and is the first project to receive certification from the health-welfare ministry. The company plans to commercialize the product by 2021.
