Sanofi Pasteur Korea said that it has vaccinated 300 staffs working for the 2019 Gwangju FINA World Championships against hepatitis A.

Huh Ki-seok, head of the accommodation division for 2019 Gwangju FINA World Championships, gets his vaccination for hepatitis A ahead of the event, held in the southwestern city from July 12-28.

“The group vaccination was conducted to prevent herd infection of hepatitis A in advance of the championships, where many athletes around the world are gathered,” the company said.

Hepatitis A is an acute inflammatory liver disease caused by hepatitis A virus. The disease is highly infectious and poses a risk of group infection as it is easily transmitted by sharing food or a bathroom with infected patients.

Although there is no cure for hepatitis A, the condition is preventable through vaccination.
