MEZOO’s Hicardi, a patch-type electrocardiogram device, is displayed at CES 2020 in Las Vegas, on Tuesday.

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A new product has arrived to allow a user to measure electrocardiogram (ECG) by merely attaching a patch smaller than a business card to the chest. And it comes wireless.

MEZOO, a Korean digital healthcare solution company, introduced its patchable ECG system, Hicardi, at CES 2020 in Las Vegas, Nev., running from Tuesday through Friday this week.

A user can attach Hicardi to the chest and check ECG results on a mobile application.

MEZOO said Hicardi identifies 17 kinds of arrhythmias, including NSR(Normal Sinus Rhythm), ASYS(Asystole), VFIB(Ventricular Fibrillation), PVC(Premature Ventricular Contraction), and VTAC(Ventricular Tachycardia).

The company is seeking approval as a medical device in Korea.

MEZOO also displayed Wetwave, a patch-type ECG device for pets, at the show. Vetwave measures ECG without having to shave the animal.

MEZOO CEO Park Jeong-hwan told Korea Biomedical Review on Tuesday that the company was testing Hicardi in clinical trials at Severance Hospital’s Emergency Medicine Department, Pulmonology Department, and Geriatrics Department.

“Hicardi can help physicians distinguish urgent patients from others in an emergency room crowded with many patients,” Park said.

Hicardi also targets infants at the neonatal intensive care unit, Park noted. “I heard it is heartbreaking to see a newborn attached to many lines for ECG. Hicardi can be attached without any wire, and it can be used for many babies simultaneously for better monitoring,” he added.

While other products such as Holter’s ECG system require moving data to another device, Hicardi analyzes data itself, Park explained.
