The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said Tuesday that the fourth Wuhan pneumonia patient made contacts with 172 people and visited a local hospital for a week before being confirmed and isolated.

“However, the patient stayed mainly at home after the onset of symptoms, and did not go out much except for visiting the medical institution,” the KCDC said. “We have disinfected the airplane, airport bus, and medical institution visited by the patient.”

One of the family members of the patient showed suspected symptoms of the new coronavirus, but tested negative for the virus, the KCDC added.

According to the KCDC’s report regarding the movement of the patient daily, the patient arrived at Incheon International Airport around 4:25 p.m. on Monday last week. He then took an airport bus around 5:30 and got off at Songtan Bus Terminal in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, and got in a cab to go home.

Last Tuesday, the patient visited 365 Yonhap Clinic in Pyeongtaek, about 70 km south of Seoul, and went back home. According to the clinic, hospital workers found the patient had recently traveled to Wuhan, Hubei Province. When they asked the patient about it, he did not provide a specific answer and went home driving his car.

From Wednesday to Friday, the patient stayed home.

On Saturday, the patient revisited the 365 Yonhap Clinic due to a fever and muscle pain and was put under active surveillance after the hospital confirmed the patient’s travel history to Wuhan.

On Sunday, the patient was diagnosed with the new coronavirus from a public health center and was transferred to the nearest state-designated medical institution – Seoul National University Bundang Hospital.

Meanwhile, the agency also announced that it would survey every person who arrived from Wuhan during the past two weeks.

“According to the immigration records, 3,023 people – 1,166 Koreans and 1,857 foreigners – arrived in Korea from Wuhan over the past two weeks,” the KCDC said. “For Koreans, we plan to conduct a complete enumeration survey on all the passengers jointly with the local authorities and Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service.”

If any of the Korean passengers show symptoms of fever or respiratory symptoms, the agency will transport them to a nationally designated hospital and put them under quarantine.

Regarding foreigners, the KCDC said that it would first check if the passengers are still in the country and work on contacting them with the National Police Agency for those still staying in Korea.
