Myongji Hospital has the “Coronavirus Blues Treatment Support Corps,” which develops and provides treatment programs for coronavirus patients and medical workers suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic’s psychological pains.

The support corps, launched on Monday, will be in comprehensive charge of producing and operating mental healing programs related to the coronavirus, which the hospital has been conducting separately.

It will develop and produce healing programs and deliver them not just to patients and healthcare providers but also guardians and self-isolators, through the hospital’s website, Facebook and YouTube channels.

Myongji Hospital staff workers hold a bedside concert for a coronavirus patient in a negative pressure room at the hospital in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

Lee So-young, director of the hospital’s Center of Arts and Healing, will head the group, with Professor Lee Seo-jung of the Department of Psychiatry serving as her deputy.

The support corps will be composed of two divisions -- psychological treatment practicing group, including the Center for Patient Empathy, Arts and Healing, Rehabilitation, and Sports Medicine, and psychological treatment supporting group, including the Care Design Center, Institute for Information Technology Convergence, and public relations team.

Among the former group, the Center for Patient Empathy will provide psychological treatment for individual patients, and continue to conduct employee awareness survey on the response to Covid-19, which has already been conducted twice. Besides, it will upload the contents of existing inquiries and protocols for assessing stress levels of confirmed patients and the hospital’s intervention in it.

The Center of Arts and Healing will be responsible for producing various healing videos and holding regular bedside concerts. The hospital plans to make videos of caring for the patients’ mind and relieving stress, work-out therapy with music for adults and children, and re-edited bedside concerts and lobby concerts for rooting out Covid-19.

The support corps will continue bedside concerts for confirmed patients isolated at the nationally designated negative pressure room, as it has already done on three occasions.

To prepare for the prolongation of Covid-19, the hospital is also producing mindfulness videos and physical exercise programs for children and adults in the era of coronavirus.
