Genematrix said Wednesday that it has won the approval from the Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety for Neoplex RV-Panel A, which collectively diagnoses 10 types of severe respiratory viruses.

Neoplex RV-Panel A can identify 10 viruses that induce severe respiratory diseases, including swine flu, type A and B flu, respiratory syncytial virus type A and B, parainfluenza type 1 to 3, and adenovirus, in three hours with a single test.

As severe respiratory infections show very similar clinical symptoms to those of various viruses such as the new coronavirus, detecting and diagnosing the correct causal virus is critical in preventing the spread in local communities, it said.

“The company has finished the launch of its major respiratory diagnostic panels by acquiring the ministry’s approval for the Neoplex RV-Panel A in addition to the existing pneumonia-causing bacteria diagnosis kit, Neoplex RB-8,” a Genematrix official said.

Respiratory viruses have features of developing new and mutated viruses, such as the 2009 swine flu and Covid-19 pandemic, and also can rapidly spread throughout communities, the official noted.

Aside from enhancing the competitiveness of respiratory testing products with the approval, the company is striving to win more authorization for the multi-respiratory virus diagnostic product line, which includes the coronavirus panel, he added.
