Myongji Hospital said Wednesday that it would develop a mobile artificial intelligence-based computerized tomography that detects Covid-19 virus, in a three-party joint project with Vatech and Phenomx.

Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-jun (center), Vatech CEO Hyun Jeong-hoon (left), and Phenomx CEO Kim Han-seok hold the trilateral agreement, at Myongji Hospital in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, on Tuesday.

The three organizations have agreed to cooperate in research and technology exchange related to the development project through their respective know-how.

Specifically, Myongji Hospital has know-how on research experience and clinical trial infrastructure obtained from treating Covid-19 patients, Vatech has low-dose, high-resolution mobile CT-related technology capable of specialized diagnosis of viral pneumonia, and Phenomx has unique AI artificial intelligence service that can increase speed and accuracy in diagnosing Covid-19.

Myongji Hospital will install Vatech’s mobile CT and begin IRB (institutional review board)-based research and field tests by combining the lung CT data with Phenomx’s AI algorithm optimization technology.

Earlier, Myongji Hospital and Phenomx cooperated in launching Phenochest-AI, an AI service for Covid-19 diagnosis through image data, in the U.S. market.

“Mobile CT and AI solutions are important tasks included in the government-backed Covid-19 treatment and vaccine development support organization’s 11 core medical device that needs to be locally developed,” Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-jun said. “We expect to see visible results soon while providing another milestone for Covid-19 research.”
