Yonsei University Health System (YUHS) and Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) said that they would provide video training and non-face-to-face expert consulting to strengthen the medical staff's ability to respond to Covid-19 in developing countries.

The two institutions have decided to provide such help as the Covid-19 outbreak is accelerating in developing countries with insufficient health workforce and resources for battling the virus.

The training aims to help medical personnel in more than 100 countries, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and KOICA have provided support.

The training contents consist of wearing personal protective equipment, infection management, emergency room safety management, specimen collection and transportation, Covid-19 diagnostic tests, and clinical features and treatment of Covid-19.

The material will be available at KOICA's information hub and the "KOICA-YONSEI: COVID-19 Program" YouTube channel. They also plan to upload the contents on Facebook considering the internet environment and accessibility in developing countries.

The educational videos will support a variety of languages, including English, French, Spanish and Arabic.

YUHS will also open a social networking service channel and have their experts answer any related inquiries raised during online training and provide consultations if needed.

"Although data related to the Covid-19 has increased, those tailored to the conditions of developing countries are still insufficient," said Professor Kim Moon-kyu, director of the Global Development Center at YUHS. "In cooperation with KOICA, we will establish a liaison system to communicate closely with countries receiving aid, and hope that Korea's exemplary active response will help such countries."
