A global academic research information provider named 39 Korean researchers on the list of the world's most influential researchers. Among them, four are all specialists in hematology and oncology.

On Wednesday, Clarivate Analytics announced the list of Highly Cited Researchers (HCR) who have published the top 1 percent papers with the highest number of citations in the past 11 years in each field. The list was based on the Web of Science citation index and data analyzed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information.

This year, Clarivate recognized 6,167 researchers from over 60 countries as HCRs. The U.S. dominated the list with 2,650 researchers who accounted for 41.5 percent of the list. Harvard University was the institution with the highest concentration of HCRs, producing 188 researchers.

Kim is lauded for identifying the effects of targeted therapies to extend lung cancer patients' lives by five times.

Bang is often considered as a likely candidate to win the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the first time in Korea. Bang proved the therapeutic effect of gastric cancer-targeted therapy and immunotherapy for the first time in the world.

Park is an eminent figure in lung cancer. He was the first local researcher to participate in an international joint clinical study and establish adjuvant chemotherapy guidelines to prevent recurrence after radical resection of lung cancer.

Ahn is a specialist in lung cancer and head and neck cancer. He actively conducted trials on targeted therapy and immunotherapy for lung cancer to help develop new drugs and released the results in many international journals.
