Inscobee said Thursday that it has acquired the U.S. patent for its bio-implant technology that promotes hair growth.

The company’s technology showed improvement in hair loss and enhanced the growth by implanting stem cells cultured under specific conditions into the body through capsules. Stem cells inserted in the capsule are designed to improve only hair growth without side effects.

Hair loss occurs in many people regardless of age due to various causes, including stress, nutritional imbalance, and genetic factors. The National Health Insurance Service reported that Korea’s hair-losing population is projected to surpass 10 million, with the market reaching 4 trillion won ($3.58 billion).

The global hair loss market is also estimated to grow 5.51 percent on the annual average, from 9.4 trillion won in 2018 to 15 trillion won by 2027.

The company said interests are growing in hair loss treatment because, in many cases, hair loss occurs about three months after people are infected with Covid-19.

The demand for hair loss improvement and treatment is on the rise, as shown by the 24.8 percent growth in the number of people diagnosed with hair loss over the past five years, it said.

“As the interest in hair loss treatment is growing, we will enter the pre-clinical study with contract research organization (CRO) companies within this year on the occasion of our acquisition of the U.S. patent,” an Inscosbee official said. “We will secure competitiveness in the global hair loss market by developing a program that can complement the shortcomings of existing hair loss treatments.”
