The hip replacement surgery was performed on Igor Mishanov, a 39-year-old male from Russia, who previously received surgery for a left thigh bone fracture but has since experienced pain that did not improve.

Mishanov first visited Lee Chun Tek Hospital in 2019 to receive treatment in Korea and was diagnosed with a severe case of osteoarthritis of the hip joint leading his doctors to the only viable conclusion that he needed hip replacement surgery. However, Mishanov delayed his decision and returned home due to the sudden burden of surgery, and has not been able to return to Korea barred by the Covid-19 situation.

As the Covid-19 quarantine measures were eased, Mishanov visited the Lee Chun Tek Hospital for hip-joint surgery in January. After four years, the disease had significantly progressed, weakening his left thigh muscle so it was difficult to guarantee a complete recovery even after surgery. However, hospital director Yoon Sung-hwan performed hip replacement surgery based on his long experience and know-how in surgery without any complications and Igor will return to Russia on Saturday this week after being discharged from the hospital on Wednesday.

"I didn't think the recovery would be this fast. I was very anxious that I might not be able to walk in the future, but the hospital director and other medical staff reassured me," Mishanov remarked. "Before I decided to operate, I looked into medical technologies in other countries, but I’m glad I chose the Lee Chun Tek Hospital in Korea."

Hospital director Yoon added, "We have been doing various activities to promote Korea's excellent medical technology to the world for a long time. As we are entering the era of the pandemic, we will resume our surgery services to foreign clients which stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic."

Lee Chun Tek Hospital was designated as a orthopedics specialty hospital in 2011 and attracted patients from Russia, Kazakhstan, and China for various orthopedic operations such as spinal surgery as well as robotic artificial joint surgery. Additionally, the hospital has built its network overseas by transferring the latest surgical techniques of Lee Chun Tek Hospital through training foreign medical personnel, and medical staff who returned home with the skills needed to help more patients with precise surgery.
