Biotech startups supported by Celltrion through its “open innovation strategy” are nesting in Seoul Biohub.

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon (center) and Celltrion President Lee Sang-joon (fourth from left) attended the opening ceremony of the Seoul Biohub Global Center in Hoegi-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, on  Thursday.

Celltrion said Thursday that it attended the Seoul Biohub Global Center opening ceremony in Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul. Three companies supported by Celltrion—MediMabBio, S&K Therapeutics, and Enterobiome—have moved into the Seoul Biobub Global Center.

MediMabBio focuses on antibody drug discovery platforms, S&K Therapeutics prioritizes autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, and Enterobiome concentrates on drug development using the microbiome. Celltrion selected the companies in January at the Seoul Biohub-Celltrion Open Innovation Program, where they were evaluated by a panel of judges, including external technology evaluators.

Since the selection, Celltrion has been supporting the companies with customized startup incubation programs, networking connections with global bio clusters, and rent and tenancy rights at the Seoul Biohub Global Center, Celltrion said.

The company plans to actively promote the growth of promising bio startups and seek synergies with them in the future by, for instance, strengthening their capabilities to develop new drugs in various modalities, it added.

The Seoul Biohub Global Center is a 14,711-square-meter space built by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in Hoegi-dong, northeastern Seoul, to support the growth of bio companies and provide a base for cooperation between domestic and foreign industry, academia, research, and industry.

Companies in the Seoul Biohub Global Center can freely use various amenities, such as a collaborative base space for networking with global companies and shared laboratories.

"The opening of the Seoul Biohub Global Center provides an important foundation for various companies, including innovative bio startups supported by Celltrion, to achieve growth with stable support," a Celltrion official said. "Celltrion will continue to provide generous support to achieve sustainable mutual growth in the bio-industry together with the Seoul Metropolitan Government and will do its best to fulfill its role as an anchor company."
