Baxter Korea announced the launch of MyPD, a management app for peritoneal dialysis patients, on Monday. The app allows patients to enter and manage their dialysis treatment data and connects with Sharesource, a digital patient management platform, to help manage their care.

Unlike hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis patients perform daily dialysis at home and usually visit the hospital once a month. It's important to record their dialysis treatment outcomes daily, including blood pressure, weight, dialysate infusion and drainage times, and fluid volume (the amount of water removed through dialysis).

In the past, patients on manual continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) had to visit an outpatient clinic to record their dialysis treatment results by hand. Automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) patients have their dialysis treatment results automatically recorded and sent to Sharesource, a digital patient management platform, via their peritoneal dialysis device. Still, patients must go to the clinic to check or record their data separately.

MyPD app was developed to alleviate this inconvenience and is now available to all patients prescribed Baxter peritoneal dialysis solutions. The app enables peritoneal dialysis patients to enter data on their mobile devices and view their securely managed records anytime. According to Baxter Korea, healthcare providers can review, analyze, and evaluate data remotely, enabling data-driven decision-making and personalized care for each patient.

MyPD app allows patients to record their current dialysis fluid exchange stage (retention, drainage, infusion) and dialysis status for the day, review prescribed dialysis fluid details, and record medications administered. Vital signs, including weight and blood pressure, can also be managed via Bluetooth data integration or manually recorded. Entered data is displayed in charts to show trends in fluid volume, weight, and blood pressure, and treatment history can be viewed for up to 90 days.

Recorded treatment data is securely managed and automatically shared with Sharesource, a digital patient management platform for healthcare providers. Medical professionals can refer to the recorded data to improve treatment accuracy and efficiency and facilitate communication with patients at the point of care.

“Advances in digital technology are enabling patient-oriented care in peritoneal dialysis and improving the quality of life for patients,” said Professor Song Sang-heon of the Department of Nephrology at Pusan National University Hospital. Peritoneal dialysis using digital patient management reduces technical failures, including hemodialysis morbidity and mortality. With the new MyPD app, patients can more easily record their data, feel more secure in the knowledge that they are always connected to their healthcare team, and achieve better treatment outcomes.”

Baxter Korea General Manager Im Kwang-hyuk said, “Baxter is introducing many digital solutions to optimize the effectiveness and convenience of home peritoneal dialysis treatments. With the launch of our digital patient management platform, Sharesource, and now the MyPD app, we are making it easier and more convenient for patients to manage their care and for healthcare providers to make data-driven treatment decisions through enhanced digital patient management.”

Baxter is committed to providing a better experience for patients and healthcare providers throughout the entire peritoneal dialysis treatment journey, Im added.
