Lunit, an AI-powered solution developer for cancer diagnostics and therapeutics, said on Tuesday that the company appointed Teri Thomas as its new chief business officer (CBO).

Thomas currently serves as CEO of Volpara Health Technologies, a New Zealand-based subsidiary acquired by Lunit in May that provides medical software for breast cancer screening.

Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Master of Science in Nursing from the Waikato Institute of Technology, also known as Wintec, in New Zealand.

Lunit has appointed Teri Thomas, the CEO of Volpara Health Technologies, as its new chief business officer to leverage AI technology and clinical data for global market expansion.

Her career includes more than two decades at Epic Systems, the U.S. electric medical record (EMR) software application company, where she led global business strategic planning and expanded Epic System's footprint in Europe from its Netherlands office.

Following her tenure at Epic Systems, Thomas worked at University of North Carolina (UNC) Health Care, a non-profit integrated healthcare system, and at Orion Health, a healthcare software company in New Zealand, where she served as Executive Vice President of global sales, marketing, and strategy.

Joining Volpara as Strategic Advisor in November 2020, Thomas played a pivotal role in the decision-making behind the acquisition of CRA Health, a Harvard University spin-out, in February 2021, Lunit said. She later assumed the CEO position in October 2022.

Under her leadership, Volpara has made significant strides, as evidenced by her recent financial performance. Revenue growth was 30 percent year over year, and net cash flow increased 196 percent, turning positive in the first half of this year, according to Lunit.

In her new role as Lunit's CBO, Thomas aims to leverage Lunit's AI technology and Volpara's clinical data to drive global market penetration and profitability. She will oversee sales and marketing strategies for both entities, focusing on the U.S. and EMEA regions this year and expanding into new markets in 2025 and beyond.

Brandon Suh, CEO of Lunit, commented on Thomas's appointment, emphasizing her experience and capabilities in integrating products and devising global sales strategies. “Thomas’s appointment as CBO marks a significant turning point in Lunit’s business strategy,” Suh said. “She is the ideal person to maximize acquisition synergies in terms of integrating the products of both companies and establishing global sales strategies.”
