KHIDI resumes Medical Korea Academy Invitational Training Program after 5-year hiatus
The Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI) said it successfully completed the "2024 Medical Korea Academy Invitational Training Program" on Thursday, marking the program's resumption after a five-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Since its inception in 2007, the Medical Korea Academy Invitational Training Program has aimed to enhance global healthcare partnerships by inviting medical professionals from key strategic countries to Korea. To date, 720 medical professionals from 32 countries have participated, receiving hands-on experience with Korea's advanced medical technology.
Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, China, and Vietnam have been the leading participants, with training programs covering major medical fields such as general surgery, internal medicine, orthopedics, anesthesiology, and otolaryngology.
This year's program hosted 17 doctors and dentists from Mongolia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan.
The doctors participated in observation training at seven leading Korean medical institutions -- including Catholic Kwandong University International St. Mary's Hospital, Myongji Hospital, Asan Medical Center, Sungae Hospital, Inha University Hospital, Chosun University Dental Hospital, and Kyungpook National University Chilgok Hospital. The training lasted for four weeks, following a three-day preliminary course organized by KHIDI, which began with an orientation session on Aug. 19.
On Thursday, the participants also visited the Training and Education Center for Korean Medical Devices at the Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency, where they explored the agency’s works to support the global expansion of Korea’s domestically-produced medical devices.
“By restarting the Medical Korea Academy Invitational Training Program, which was suspended in 2020 due to Covid-19, we aim to foster key partnerships with medical professionals in strategic countries,” said Yim Young-yi, Director of KHIDI's Overseas Expansion Division. “This will help our healthcare institutions expand their global networks and contribute to the development of international medical projects.”
