Health ministry backs call to keep medical school enrollment at 3,058 for 2026
The Ministry of Health and Welfare said it has sympathized with university presidents’ demand to return the medical school enrollment quota to 3,058 for the 2026 academic year without any increase and would fully consult the matter within the government.
The ministry made the announcement on Thursday in response to an agreement reached at the Council of University Presidents for the Advancement of Medical Schools, a group of 40 university presidents with medical schools.
“We sympathize with the presidents of universities seeking to normalize medical education. We will fully consult within the government regarding their opinions, considering the intent of the bill passed by the subcommittee of the National Assembly's Health and Welfare Committee and the position of medical students,” the ministry said.
On Wednesday, the council decided to set the number of medical school students for the 2026 academic year at 3,058 without any increase.
