Pulcare Nail Lacquer contains ciclopirox, a broad-spectrum antifungal agent that directly targets the pathogens causing fingernail and toenail fungal infections.

The treatment is notable for its strong penetration ability and ease of use—requiring just one application before bedtime without the need for filing or cleansing the nails. It is available as a non-prescription over-the-counter product, making it easily accessible at pharmacies, particularly during the summer months when consumer interest in nail care typically rises.

Pulcare’s formulation is based on the patented Onychomycosis Technology (Ony-Tec) that incorporates hydroxypropyl chitosan (HPCH), a hydrophilic film-forming agent derived from crustaceans.

HPCH facilitates rapid and deep penetration of ciclopirox into the nail, enhancing therapeutic efficacy. In a clinical study involving 120 patients with toenail fungus, Pulcare demonstrated strong antifungal effectiveness, with 96.7 percent of patients (58 out of 60) achieving mycological cure after 24 weeks of treatment.

The company stated that the new packaging was designed to highlight Pulcare’s unique features and improve consumer understanding of the product’s benefits. Replacing the previous illustration-based design, the new package uses a real foot image and a more intuitive layout to clearly convey both symptoms and treatment progression of nail fungus.

One of the central elements of the updated design is the visual emphasis on the number “1,” underscoring the product’s once-daily application and its distinction as the first nail fungus treatment in Korea that requires no filing or cleansing.

A pastel-toned color scheme has also been adopted on the front of the package to enhance visibility on pharmacy shelves while promoting a friendlier and more trustworthy image to consumers.

“Pulcare has maintained strong consumer trust over the past 12 years as a leading treatment for nail fungal infections,” Menarini Korea CEO Bae Han-joon said. “With this packaging renewal, we aim to strengthen consumer awareness of Pulcare’s core value, and we will continue our efforts to meet consumer expectations through product excellence and brand innovation.”
