The influence of the Korean Journal of Anesthesiology (KJA), an international academic journal published by the Korean Society of Anesthesiologists (KSA), has grown significantly.

KJA has entered the top five worldwide in Journal Impact Factor (JIF) in anesthesiology and pain medicine.

The KSA announced on Monday that KJA ranked among the top five international academic journals in the field of anesthesiology and pain medicine out of 68 journals, based on the Journal Citation Reports for 2025 published by Clarivate, an international academic information analysis company.

Another academic journal published by the KSA, “Anesthesia and Pain Medicine,” also received its first JIF this year, scoring 3.2. This ranks it 13th among international academic journals in anesthesiology and pain medicine, placing it in the Q1 category, which represents the top 19.1 percent of journals.

Among the 26 medical academic societies in Korea, only nine have official academic journals classified as Q1. Among these, only two societies, including the KSA, have academic journals ranked within the top 10 percent in their respective fields. Notably, the KSA is the only society with two or more official academic journals classified as Q1.

“This achievement is the result of the dedicated efforts of the members of the Korean Society of Anesthesiology over the years,” KSA President Jeon Young-tae said. “We will continue our efforts to enhance the international standing of our society further.”
