2 professors at Kyung Hee University Hospital awarded for top-cited paper in Neurospine
Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong announced Tuesday that the research team led by Professors Jo Dae-jean and Bae Sung-soo from the Spine Center's Department of Neurosurgery received the “Neurospine Highly Cited Article Award.” The award ceremony took place on Sept. 6.
The Neurospine Highly Cited Article Award, which the research team received, is presented to the article that is most frequently cited in the international journal Neurospine in 2024.
The award-winning paper is the team's 2023 Neurospine publication, “‘Proximal Junctional Kyphosis or Failure After Adult Spinal Deformity Surgery-Review of Risk Factors and Its Prevention.” This paper systematically reviews risk factors and prevention methods for proximal junctional kyphosis or failure, a common complication following surgery for adult spinal deformity.
The research team also received the Best Academic Award at Asia Spine & NSC 2025 held at Lotte Hotel Busan on Sept. 5. Additionally, they delivered an invited lecture at the Deformity Main Symposium on “Revision Surgery Following Primary Adult Spine Deformity Surgery.”
“It is meaningful to have our work recognized for its academic value by achieving a high citation rate in a globally authoritative journal,” Professor Cho said. “We will continue our research to develop safe and effective surgical techniques for adult spinal deformities.”
Professor Cho previously served as the Head of Surgery at Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong. He currently holds positions, including head of the Department of Neurosurgery, treasurer of the Korean Spinal Neurosurgery Society, chairman of the Research Committee of the Korean Spine Deformity Research Society, and member of the Health Insurance Professional Evaluation Committee.
