Kyung Hee Professor Kyung receives ‘Travel Scholarship Award’ from Europe
A Korean researcher has been recognized for his achievements in gait analysis research at a global academic conference.
Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong announced on Thursday that Professor Kyung Min-gyu of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery received the “Travel Scholarship Award” at the European Society for Movement Analysis in Adults and Children (ESMAC) conference held in Basel, Switzerland, from Sept. 8 to 13.
The Travel Scholarship Award, which Professor Kyung received, is an international prize awarded based on the researcher's scientific contributions and potential. This award is given to only seven individuals worldwide, and Professor Kyung is the sole Korean recipient this year.
The evaluation criteria include the potential for scientific advancement in research, technical contributions, and clinical applications. Recipients are selected from among presenters at the conference through review by the ESMAC Education Committee. ESMAC is a European-based academic organization focused on the fields of body movement and gait analysis, selecting outstanding researchers annually through its conference.
Professor Kyung presented three studies: “The Influence of Medial Arch Structure on Foot and Ankle Movement in Patients with End-Stage Varus Ankle Arthritis (oral presentation)”; “Differences in Foot and Ankle Segmental Movement Between Patients with Varus and Valgus Ankle Arthritis (poster presentation)”; and “A Case of Idiopathic Toe-Walking Diagnosed by Dynamic Gait Analysis in an Adult with Bilateral Heel Pain” (poster presentation).
“It is an honor to receive such a prestigious international award,” Professor Kyung said. “I will continue to do my utmost to contribute to the academic advancement and clinical application of orthopedic fields, including gait analysis.”
Professor Kyung serves as an editorial board member for the Journal of Orthopedic Research, the official journal of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS). He also works as a judge for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Research, Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research, Gait and Posture, Journal of Biomechanics, Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, and Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery.
