To obtain broader authorization, the company submitted data from a U.S. clinical trial in 3,732 adolescents aged 12 to 17 that compared the immunogenicity and confirmed the preventive effect and safety of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Earlier on Friday, the European Medicines Agency authorized the Moderna vaccine for children aged 12 to 17.

The ministry said it would review GC Pharma’s request for changes in approval conditions swiftly and thoroughly.

“We will do our best to provide safe and effective vaccines for Korean people promptly,” a ministry official said.
