An immigrant couple, a father from Uzbekistan and a mother from Mongolia, gave birth to a triplet thanks to the favors of Korea University Ansan Hospital (KUAH), which delivered the babies although the couple had no health insurance or money.

KUAH staff knew that the couple could not afford the medical expenses, which are very expensive for the delivery of triplets but decided to proceed with the birth.

The hospital decided so due to concerns about the mother's safety, who showed signs of premature labor, and her unborn triplets.

The hospital successfully conducted the cesarean section operation on the 34-week pregnant mother.

Given that the triplets were preterm birth, the medical team swiftly moved the newborns to the neonatal intensive care unit, and the hospital staff diligently monitored their health, providing necessary medical treatment and nursing care.

The infants are gradually regaining health, and the hospital's medical social work team is exploring various options to support the family with medical expenses.

"The mother was at risk of premature delivery due to hypertension symptoms and early contractions during pregnancy," Professor Song Kwan-heup, an obstetrician at KUAH who led the surgery, said. "We proceeded with the caesarian section surgery, considering the health of the mother and triplets as a top priority."

It was a moving experience to be part of the special moment, and the hospital hopes that the triplets will continue to grow healthily even after their discharge, in the loving embrace of their family, Song added.

KUAH has been engaged in social contribution activities for medically vulnerable groups, including foreigners, multicultural families, and North Korean defectors.

According to the hospital, such efforts started with the opening of its medical multicultural support center, the Rosetta Hall Center, in 2016.
