Korean medical tech company Ioteen said Thursday that it will promote its Internet of Things (IoT) pill case MediAlarm at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair 2017, which is to run from Oct. 13-16.

With IoT technology, MediAlarm operates with a smartphone app to notify medication time, reminders for a guardian and to search drugs for the user.

Currently, two types -- MediAlarm S and MediAlarm Lite – are available.

MediAlarm S is suitable for patients who take regular medication three times a day such as diabetes patients, while MediAlarm Lite is for daily medication takers such as patients suffering from arthritis or hypertension.

"We wanted to show through MediAlarm that IoT technology can help improve people's quality of life," said Seo Byung-hyun 서병현, CEO of Ioteen 아이오틴, in a statement. "Especially, MediAlarm's guardian reminder was designed while I was taking care of my sick wife. This function can greatly help not only the patient but also the caregiver."

Entering its 37th edition, the Hong Kong Electronics Fair is one of the largest electronic fairs in Asia. About 3,000 companies and 60,000 industry officials are expected to attend the show.
