GC has released Pojinen cream, a new treatment for recurrent herpes labialis.

Herpes labialis is a disease caused by infection with the herpes virus, which remains in the body for life. The virus is usually dormant but becomes active when the immune system weakens, causing blisters, itching, and pain.

The cream contains 50mg/g acyclovir, which inhibits herpes virus replication, and 10mg/g hydrocortisone, effective for anti-inflammatory. The combined action of these ingredients can shorten the average treatment period. Pojinen cream is an over-the-counter drug.

The company explained that patients could use the product more hygienically as it is in a laminating tube with good resilience and is not easily torn. “We are expanding our ointment lineup to meet the needs of consumers,” GC Brand Manager Yoo Min-jung said. “Together with the existing ointment products, we will keep trying to increase consumer awareness.”
