Boditech Med said it obtained the regulatory nod for ichorma Vitamin D Neo, a diagnostic device that can detect Vitamin-D deficiency in blood in 12 minutes.

The device’s identification of Vitamin D levels within 12 minutes at a medical institution will reduce the inconvenience of patients who otherwise have to revisit the institution, Bioditech Med said.

The company said that the latest product reduced the testing time significantly to 12 minutes from 30 minutes of the previous product that Boditech Med used to sell overseas.

It will be easier to use the newest testing kit because it can detect vitamin D levels in whole blood without separating serum and plasma in blood samples.

The new product is compatible with the company’s rapid antigen test device, ichroma. Thus, the company said hospitals and clinics do not have to purchase overlapping diagnostic devices.

Boditech Med released a testing device to detect vitamin D deficiency in 2016, and the company sells the product around the world.

It is the only Korean manufacturer that holds the U.S. CDC’s Vitamin D Standardization-Certification Program (VDSCP).

“Medical institutions’ quick detection of vitamin D deficiency will significantly change the existing diagnostic method using large equipment,” said Choi Eui-yeol, CEO of Boditech Med. “The vitamin D diagnostic kit can be used in our rapid antigen kits currently available in local hospitals and clinics. So, the product will create synergy effects in sales.”
