Humasis’ Covid-19 self-test kit that can detect the Omicron subvariants of BA.4 and BA.5 has recently obtained Canadian certification.

The company’s Covid-19 Ag Home Test was also certified and officially approved in Korea. Amid reviving demand for personal inspection kits due to the spread of Omicron subvariants worldwide, the company expects sales of Covid-19 self-test products in the North American market to increase, aided by its recent Canadian approval.

Due to these new subvariants, Humasis conducted a clinical evaluation in conjunction with the University of South Africa to determine whether positive samples of BA.4 and BA.5 could be detected with their kit. The results confirmed that the kit could detect both the BA.4 and BA.5 samples.

However, the clinical evaluation did not include a test for the Centaurus (BA.2.75) mutation confirmed in India. The company said it would make a further evaluation on BA.2.75 as soon as possible.

"We are continuously monitoring mutations following recommendations from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and the World Health Organization. We will promptly proceed with the supply of products to Canada following the acquisition of this certification." a Humasis official said.
