Professor Song Kyoung-ho of the Department of Infectious Disease at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital has been appointed an editor of Scientific Reports, an international academic journal.

Scientific Reports is an online, open-access journal published by the Nature Publishing Group and a sister journal of Nature, the world’s most renowned academic journal in the science field. It covers the entire field of natural science, including biologics, physics, chemistry, and medical science.

Professor Song is a renowned medical scientist who published more than 180 papers on hospital infection control, proper use of antibiotics, and emerging infectious diseases and conducted basic research and clinical trial on antibiotic-resistant infectious diseases. Song will oversee Scientific Reports’ dissertations on infectious diseases and make final decisions on publication.

According to the hospital, Song’s appointment has great significance concerning national public healthcare amid the increasing importance of the field of infectious diseases.

“I will make a dedicated effort to developing the infectious disease field as a Scientific Reports editor,” Professor Song said. “I want to contribute to introducing Korean researchers’ excellent ability to the world.”

Professor Song held the post of the global ambassador of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) in 2019 and received the minister of health and welfare's commendation in 2020 for his role in responding to public health crises, such as MERS and Covid-19.
