Asan Medical Center (AMC), located in Seoul, said it ranked within the world’s top 10 hospitals in five specialties out of the total 11 specialties in Newsweek’s World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2023.

Specifically, AMC was the world’s No. 3 hospital in endocrinology, No. 4 in urology, No. 6 in gastroenterology, No. 7 in oncology, and No. 9 in neurology.

Working with Statista, a German market data company, Newsweek conducted an online survey on 40,000 healthcare professionals worldwide about the world’s best hospitals in 11 specialties. After a review by a credible medical advisory group, Newsweek released the final results on its website.

Outside of the five specialties, AMC ranked 12th in orthopedics, 26th in pulmonology, 39th in cardiology, 54th in cardiac surgery, and 60th in pediatrics.

Within Korea, AMC topped in seven areas – endocrinology, urology, neurology, pulmonology, cardiology, and cardiac surgery.

AMC’s performance in endocrinology stood out. The hospital’s ranking in endocrinology went up by two notches from last year. AMC is now the world’s third-best hospital in endocrinology, after Mayo Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospital in the U.S.

In urology, which Newsweek added this year for the first time, AMC ranked fourth after Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Early this year, AMC ranked 30th among the world’s 250 hospitals, and first in Korea, according to Newsweek’s rankings.
