A team of mathematicians predicted that the number of new confirmed Covid-19 cases per day may increase to over 120,000 in two weeks as the pandemic resurgence has recently turned into an increase.

Professor Shim Eun-ha's research team at Soongsil University predicted so after analyzing the data on the number of daily new confirmed cases in Korea for the past four months.

According to Professor Shim's team, the number of new cases will increase to 85,859 on Nov. 9 and then surge to 125,576 on Nov. 16.

However, in contrast to Professor Shim's prediction, some mathematicians predicted that the number of confirmed cases would only increase slightly.

Professor Jeong Il-hyo's team at Pusan National University predicted that the number of new Covid-19 cases will only rise slightly to 40,363 from Nov. 9 to 15, after stagnating at an average daily of 38,002 from Wednesday to next Tuesday.

On Thursday, Korea added 46,896 new Covid-19 infections, including 55 cases from abroad, bringing the total caseload to 24,933,756, according to the KDCA.

While Thursday's count is below 50,000, it is the most number of cases for a Thursday in seven weeks.

The nation also reported 41 more Covid-19 deaths, raising the death toll to 29,280. The fatality rate stood at 0.11 percent. The number of critically ill patients came to 290, down 13 from the previous day.

According to the KDCA, about 44.69 million among 52 million Koreans have been fully vaccinated. In addition, about 33.65 million people had received their first booster shots, and 7.54 million had their second booster shots.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education is going all out to strengthen quarantine measures for the upcoming college scholastic ability test, planned for Nov. 17.

The Ministry of Education announced that it is planning to take measures to minimize the spread of Covid-19 in the community from Thursday.

Notably, as new Covid-19 cases recently started to rise, the education ministry plans to conduct intensive quarantine management.

As part of its plans, the ministry will conduct a special quarantine inspection for cram schools nationwide, and intensively inspect the quarantine status of facilities such as study cafes, karaoke rooms, and PC rooms, which many students visit.

Education officials also recommended that family members of test takers refrain from gatherings.
