CHICAGO, Ill. -- By Lee Han-soo/Korea Biomedical correspondent -- The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) 2022 opened the world's largest radiological conference in Chicago, Ill, the U.S., on Sunday.

Exhibitors and visitors are registering for the RSNA 2022 meeting at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Ill., on Sunday. Due to the globally relaxed Covid-19 quarantine measures, the on-site participation was much larger compared to last year.

Compared to last year, the convention was packed with participants and exhibitors as most Covid-19 regulations worldwide had been lifted.

According to the organizers, the exhibition will be participated by 647 in-person technical exhibits occupying 365,500 square feet and 34,385 on-site and virtual participants, including 19,485 healthcare professionals.

Due to the relaxed Covid-19 measures, the organizers said that the convention has seen 119 first-time exhibitors participate in the conference.

Notably, Korea boasted its presence in the international conference scene, with over 20 Korean medical device companies participating in the show.

Multinational medical device companies also showed off massive-scale booths during the RSNA 2022.

Korea Biomedical Review captured some of the scenes and booths of multinational pharmaceutical and Korean companies exhibiting at the RSNA 2022 meeting. RSNA 2022 is open from Sunday to next Thursday, at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Ill.

The highlight of the technology exhibition was the AI Showcase zone. About 120 companies gathered at the zone. Notably, there were a lot of Korean companies showing off their latest AI-based video technology.

 

Lunit has been active in the RSNA scene throughout the past few years. This year, the company’s AI platforms received recognition from the organizers, with the company unveiling eight oral presentations during the RSNA 2022. Notably, the company unveiled the world’s first real world data on using Lunit INSIGHT MMG in diagnosing breast cancer. The company’s booth was also frequently visited by foreign buyers and radiologists, who showed immense interest in the company’s software.

At the event, Vuno also operated a simulated reading room linked to the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) in the exhibition booth. The company will also present two clinical research results related to VUNO Med-DeepBrain.
VUNO showcased four VUNO Med solution products – VUNO Med-DeepBrain, VUNO Med-LungCT AI, VUNO Med-Chest X-ray, and VUNO Med-BoneAge -- in the field of radiology that are being used in various clinical sites at home and abroad through its on-site booth exhibition. The system enables rapid prototyping of medical image-driven digital twins offering realistic rendering, various physical simulations, and multi-user connections.

While Korean companies showed a large presence in the AI Showcase zone, multinational medical device companies' booths showed the massive scale of RSNA 2022 and new technology in the field.

 

Canon Medical Systems showcased its portfolio in the areas of radiology, cardiovascular imaging systems, including CT, MR, molecular imaging, ultrasound, interventional, fixed and mobile X-Ray solutions at the RSNA. Visitors could also experience the company’s devices in action, with the company’s employees showing off how its devices work on actual human subjects. Notably, this year Canon's booth offered attendees a dynamic digital user journey outside of the typical capabilities of physical booths for those who could not attend the conference in person.

Hologic will exhibit its extensive portfolio of breast and skeletal health products RSNA 2022. Among the full suite of breast biopsy and surgery solutions will be Hologic’s Affirm Contrast Biopsy software, which will be on display for the first time since becoming commercially available in the U.S. The software allows clinicians to target and acquire tissue samples in lesions identified with I-View Contrast-Enhanced Mammography software.

The convention also had a lot to offer in terms of telemedicine. In particular, large mobile trailers equipped with the latest imaging medical devices caught the attention of exhibitors.

Aside from the technology exhibition, RSNA 2022 also set up a learning center where radiologists could come and gain the latest insight in the radiology field. The center was home to thousands of educational exhibits, scientific digital posters, and quality improvement report posters covering a range of subspecialties. 

 

Scientific posters were grouped and displayed in easy-to-find, color-coded learning communities. The center also provided the opportunity for participants to discuss with the author of the poster and a new Learning Center Theater where participants could listen to the latest innovative research and translational science.

The convention also provided a variety of programs aimed to help relax or increase the excitement for participants and exhibitors. Such programs included a 3D art display of the RSNA logo, a Zen Zone, 5K Fun Run, RSNA After Dark, and a childcare service.
