The quarantine authorities will adjust the number of hospital beds designated for Covid-19 patients from 5,800 to 3,900.

Explaining the background, the Central Disaster Relief Center said Friday that the spread of Covid-19 has eased somewhat, forcing it to readjust the number of Covid-19 beds and reallocate them to treating other diseases, including seasonal influenza.

The center added that it would continue to adjust the number of Covid-19 beds by monitoring newly confirmed cases and spreading patterns to ensure no problems in treating infected patients.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Welfare said it would pay 90.1 billion won ($70.3 million) to compensate for pandemic-related losses.

Total indemnification for the Covid-19 loss amounted to 8.39 trillion won from April 2020 to January 2023. In addition, the government paid 8.1 trillion won to about 600 medical institutions and 238 billion won to 75,882 other institutions that had to shut down or suspend operations because of Covid-19.
