Korean pharmaceutical and medical industries, including Celltrion, Yonsei University Health System (YUHS), Asan Foundation, and Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital Bucheon, have offered donations or dispatched physicians and nurses to Turkey and Syria to support relief efforts for communities in the earthquake-hit regions.

Celltrion Group announced Tuesday that it would provide 400 million won ($315,457) in restoration funds for local residents suffering from the earthquake damage.

Of the total donation of 400 million won, Celltrion and Celltrion Healthcare will deliver 300 million won to the Korean Red Cross Incheon branch, and Celltrion Pharmaceutical will deliver 100 million won to the Korean Red Cross North Chungcheong branch to be used for relief and recovery activities for local residents in Turkey and Syria.

“We delivered the donation with the hope that it will help the people in the Turkey-Syrian region suffering from the massive earthquake damage,” a Celltrion official said. “As help continues from all over the globe, we hope the damage will be quickly restored so that local residents can return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”

YUHS also started a fundraising campaign to help earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria on Tuesday.

Funds will be delivered for the relief and restoration of victims affected by the earthquake.

The fundraising activity is open to YUHS staff and anyone interested.

 “Those that wish to join in the donation can do so through the Yonsei University Health System sponsorship website (https://box.donus.org/box/severance/sevmission),” the hospital said.

Asan Foundation also delivered $300,000 through the Korean Red Cross for relief and restoration of Turkey. In addition, the foundation also delivered $100,000 to Syria.

Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital Bucheon sent both medical personnel to support relief and rescue efforts and funds.

Professor Kim Ho-jung of the Department of Emergency Medicine at the hospital will lead a team of nurses and doctors to Adana, Turkey, to provide medical support until Friday.

In addition, faculty and staff at Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital Bucheon prepared a fund of 5.33 million won and relief items for the treatment of local injured through a donation campaign four days before medical staff dispatch.

Additional donation campaigns will continue until Friday, and funds and items will be supported through the second round of medical staff dispatched to the area at that time.

Soonchunhyang University Bucheon Hospital stressed that it would bear all costs to send its medical team to the region.
