Myongji Hospital said it opened the Lee Byung-in Epilepsy Center, named after renowned epilepsy specialist Lee, and held an opening ceremony on Thursday. Professor Lee will also serve as the first director of the center.

The center is a specialized medical center equipped with a full-cycle treatment system for epilepsy that encompasses detailed treatment for pediatric and adult patients, as well as an urgent emergency response and rehabilitation treatment system.

Lee will be joined by Myongji’s three other epilepsy professors Yoon Song-yi, who will be in charge of pediatric epilepsy patients, Lee Mi-hee, who will care for adult epilepsy patients, and Lee Yoon-Jung, who will cover rehabilitation.

Notably, the center has also established an organic and rapid response system with the hospital's emergency center.

Myongji expects the epilepsy center’s role and status to be further enhanced by a permanent care system for epileptic patients in the metropolitan area.

"We will provide patient-tailored treatment by combining a multidisciplinary system with epilepsy treatment," Professor Lee Byung-in said. "We will do our best to improve the social prejudice of epilepsy and support patient recovery through drug treatment, surgery, and brain stimulation."

Myongji Hospital Chairman Lee Wang-jun noted that Professor Lee has established the concept and treatment of epilepsy in Korea.

Centered on Professor Lee's competence and leadership, the hospital's Department of Neurology will be reborn as a department that covers the three major neurological diseases and will leap forward to become the best epilepsy center in Korea, Lee added.
