Medical IP said on Monday that it signed a mutual agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to help advance its cloud-based digital transformation toward global markets using AWS' cloud infrastructure such as the U.S., China, and the Middle East.

Per the agreement, AWS will support the smooth implementation of domestic and international multicenter clinical validation through cloud migrations and collaborate to build a real-time digital twin implementation platform in a cloud environment. The cloud migrations will be integrated into Medical IP’s X-ray quantification solution, TiSepX, its medical imaging segmentation solution, MEDIP PRO, and visual printing technologies.

This collaboration will facilitate improved multi-center joint research and real-time communication across national and institutional boundaries by overcoming incompatibility issues with medical computing systems.

For example, Medical IP has integrated the AWS AI and machine learning services into its TiSepX, a solution that evaluates the severity of Covid-19 patients based on X-ray images. Medical IP is currently preparing clinical trials for TiSepX with a New York-based hospital and the AWS cloud is expected to greatly improve the efficiency of multi-agency joint clinical trials.

Additionally, Amazon’s HealthLake Imaging is a new HIPAA-certified feature that will help Medical IP to save image storage costs by running medical image applications using only reliable data without creating multiple duplicate image data on the cloud. It will also give patients separate access to meta-information when using research products.

Moreover, by linking Medical IP's medical image-based AI segmentation and 3D implementation technology with AWS Cloud, the company plans to speed up the development of a platform that implements medical images as digital twins without time and space constraints, said a company official.

"Healthcare AI and the cloud are key technologies that can accelerate the development of healthcare solutions,” Medical IP CEO Park Sang-joon said. “Through this collaboration, AWS' support will serve as a bridgehead for Medical IP to expand our services to a global market.”
