HIMSS is a highly regarded certification organization that assesses the information technology capabilities of hospitals to enhance healthcare quality and patient safety.

During the ongoing HIMSS 2023 conference in Chicago, Samsung Medical Center announced that it has become the world's first hospital to attain Stage 7 in the Digital Imaging Adoption Model (DIAM) evaluation.

The DIAM certification is a rigorous assessment of the maturity of digital transformation in medical imaging and is highly demanding.

At this year's conference, SMC achieved another milestone by obtaining Stage 7 in the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) evaluation. EMRAM evaluates the successful implementation and operation of an electronic medical record, and SMC attained the highest level in just one year after reaching the sixth level last year.

This latest achievement follows SMC's success last year in becoming the first hospital in the world to attain Stage 7 for the Infrastructure Adoption Model (INFRAM).

"SMC's achievement of the highest HIMSS rating is also of national significance, as it proves that Korea is leading the world in healthcare IT," the hospital said.

The hospital also stressed that it achieved the highest score in the Digital Health Indicator (DHI) survey conducted by HIMSS last year, scoring 365 out of 400 points.

The DHI survey assesses a hospital's digital transformation in four key areas: governance and workforce, interoperability, personalized healthcare support, and predictive analytics.

The hospital explained that the survey result objectively recognizes that it is accelerating its digital transformation faster than any other hospital worldwide and has secured a first-mover advantage ahead of the Industry 4.0 era.

"It is an honor to prove that Korea has world-class IT capabilities," SMC President Park Seung-woo. "With SMC becoming the first hospital in the world to receive the highest rating in three of the seven categories rated by the HIMSS, we will continue to strive to realize the future of healthcare as an 'advanced intelligent hospital' and become a global standard."
