A male professor of pulmonary and critical care at Asan Medical Center (AMC) who was accused of sexually molesting more than 10 female hospital staffers, including residents and nurses, will be reinstated in September, according to a report by Joongang Ilbo.

AMC suspended the professor for five months in April, which the hospital said constitutes a severe discipline under internal regulations. The victims were also informed of the discipline late last month.

AMC confirmed that the professor will be returning in September and said that it would take necessary measures to protect the victims.

"We plan to separate the professor from the victims so they will not have to meet the professor," an AMC official told Korea Biomedical Review.

However, the official did not elaborate on how they plan to do so, saying that they are still devising a plan.

The professor's sexual harassment accusations were first reported in March. Local outlets reported that the hospital in late January received a sexual harassment report from internal staffers that the professor working at the pulmonary department was sexually harassing them.

The professor's sexual molestation included touching a resident's chest, saying he was teaching how to do an echocardiogram, and wrapping his arms around a resident's waist, the news report said.

Being informed of such a case, the hospital suspended him from clinical practice under the hospital's manual.
