SINGAPORE -- Dr. Ahn Myung-ju, professor of hematology and oncology at Samsung Medical Center, received the Adi F. Gazdar IASLC Distinguished Service Award at the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) World Conference on Lung Cancer 2023 (WCLC 2023) in Singapore on Sunday.

The Adi F. Gazdar IASLC Distinguished Service Award recognizes and honors Dr. Gazdar's lifelong dedication to lung cancer research through his pioneering work in molecular pathology.

Professor Ahn is an active member of numerous research societies and associations, including IASLC, the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). She also has served as the president of the Korean Society of Medical Oncology and chairwoman of the Lung Cancer Section of the Korean Society for the Study of Anticancer Therapies.

Ahn received her M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Hanyang University College of Medicine and completed her residency training at Hanyang University Hospital. She has held numerous research fellowships, including a postdoctoral fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She has authored more than 250 cancer research papers.

Dr. Ahn's research interests include developing predictive and prognostic markers for personalized lung cancer treatment. More recently, she has focused on early clinical trials for drug discovery, targeted therapy development, and developing a non-small cell lung cancer genomic atlas.

In recognition of her dedication to cancer research, she has won the Korean Medical Women's Association (KMWA) Best Researcher Award (2003), the Korean Association of Clinical Oncology (KACO) Best Researcher Award (2015), the Korea Cancer Research Foundation Boryeong Science Award (2018), and the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) Daniel C. Ihde Oncology Lecture Award (2020).
