Huons and Kakao Healthcare have joined hands to co-market Dexcom G7, a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device developed by Dexcom, with Kakao Healthcare.
Under the contract, both parties aim to make Dexcom G7 the top-selling CGM device in Korea, and improve convenience for diabetes patients.
The two companies initially plan on expediting the domestic release of the Dexcom G7 in the first quarter of next year and will conduct various marketing activities, including patient education, counseling programs, medical staff information programs, and supporter operations.
They also plan to focus on enhancing blood sugar management and data-based healthcare services, while providing new scalability to the health management platform business.
The Dexcom G7 is a medical device for managing the blood glucose levels of diabetes patients. It features an integrated sensor and transmitter and is 60 percent smaller than the previous model, the Dexcom G6. The system's warm-up time has been significantly reduced to 30 minutes, and the mean absolute relative difference (MARD), which is a statistical measure of CGM accuracy, has improved.
The device also automatically measures blood glucose and transmits the data to smart devices, providing relative freedom from the pain of finger-prick blood sampling and sending warning alarms when a rapid change in blood sugar is predicted, helping patients manage hypoglycemia in real time and in advance.
Other features include automatically measuring blood glucose levels even when self-measurement is not possible, such as during sleep or exercise, and allowing the patient to share the data with up to 10 people, including family members, aiding in focusing on daily life.
Data provided include detailed monitoring of blood glucose concentration, trends, and variability, allowing for systematic management.
"Through collaboration with Kakao Healthcare, we will strive to expand the domestic CGM market and enhance the convenience of diabetes management to help improve the quality of life for diabetes patients," Huons CEO Yoon Sang-be said.
Kakao Healthcare CEO Hwang Hee also said, "We will provide services that solve the unmet needs of patients and medical staff, and help patients improve their lifestyle habits on their own."
