Hanmi Pharm said Monday it has been selected as the No. 1 pharma company in the Korean Sustainability Index (KSI) for the fourth consecutive year at the “2023 Korea Sustainability Competition” organized by the Korea Standards Association (KSA).

The KSI is an index that evaluates the sustainability of domestic companies based on ISO26000, an international standard for corporate social responsibility, conducted by the KSA since 2009.

The KSI is evaluated by the stakeholders directly involved with the companies. Two hundred and fourteen companies and organizations in 50 industries are judged and selected through the deliberations of a committee composed of 856 experts and more than 26,000 stakeholders, including employees, suppliers, consumers, investors, and residents.

After evaluating seven core topics—organizational governance and human rights, labor, environment, fair operations, consumer issues, and community engagement development—and 40 subtopics under these categories, Hanmi Pharm received the highest KSI score in the pharmaceutical industry, with 54.34 points. It exceeds the average score of 50.33 in the pharmaceutical industry sector.

The KSI for the entire industry was 45.04, the lowest in the last three years.

Hanmi earned high scores in R&D investment, carbon management, human rights due diligence, and CP rating.

In particular, the company was recognized for its continuous efforts to improve the quality of life of human beings by investing 15-20 percent of its annual sales in R&D to develop innovative new drugs.

"With the management philosophy of 'respect for humanity' and 'value creation,' we are striving to go beyond corporate social responsibility and create win-win social values where everyone can dream of hope together," a Hanmi official said. "We will continue to develop our sustainability management system to create a better future by coexisting with various stakeholders."
