AstraZeneca Korea on Friday announced the appointment of Chon Se-whan as its new Country President, effective December 1, 2023. Chon, previously the President of AstraZeneca Indonesia, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

Chon initially joined AstraZeneca Korea in 2015 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). He played pivotal roles in AstraZeneca's growth, serving as the Head of AstraZeneca Korea's Cardiovascular, Renal, and Metabolic Diseases (CVRM) business unit.

During his tenure as President of AstraZeneca Indonesia, the company achieved remarkable success, doubling its sales in the last three years. This accomplishment elevated AstraZeneca to the top position among multinational pharmaceutical companies in Indonesia, establishing it as the industry's fastest-growing entity, the company said.

Beyond business performance, he has been a leader in improving the company's values, including sustainability, diversity, and inclusion.

Aligned with AstraZeneca's Ambition Zero Carbon goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2025 and carbon negativity by 2030, Chon spearheaded a local Green Fleet initiative through public-private partnerships during his presidency in AstraZeneca Indonesia.

Chon graduated from Korea University with a bachelor's degree in business administration and earned a master's degree in business administration (MBA) from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, the U.S.
