In a move to combat the rising threat of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the Asia-Pacific region, Korea Biomedical Review (KBR) has announced its partnership with the APAC CVD Alliance on Thursday.

Yang Kyung-cheol, CEO and publisher of KBR, and Dr. Krishna Reddy Nallamalla, CEO of ACCESS Health International Southeast Asia, the secretariat of the APAC CVD Alliance, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the partnership earlier this month.

KBR announced the MOU with the alliance on Feb. 22, the 7th anniversary of its foundation.

This collaboration is set to spearhead initiatives aimed at elevating public and policy awareness about the pervasive nature of CVD, challenging the prevalent misperception that it is a condition only affecting older adults or affluent individuals in high-income countries.

The APAC CVD Alliance, known for its dedication to addressing cardiovascular health issues, emphasizes the chronic nature of CVD and the imperative need for a united front among all stakeholders to effectively counteract this health menace.

The alliance underlines that CVD does not discriminate, affecting individuals across various demographics due to lifestyle changes and the inherent chronic nature of the disease.

A pivotal aspect of this partnership involves designing patient-centered pathways that prioritize continuity of care within health systems as this approach is crucial in ensuring that patients receive the comprehensive care they require, navigating through the complexities of the healthcare system with ease and efficiency.

Over the coming months, the alliance plans to roll out a series of activities at both country and regional levels, aimed at mobilizing support and increasing awareness about the critical nature of CVD prevention and treatment.

A highlight of these initiatives is the organization of a regional summit scheduled for the second half of 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand. This summit will serve as a platform for all stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, policymakers, patients, and advocates, to converge and discuss strategies to combat CVD in the Asia-Pacific region.

The partnership between KBR and the APAC CVD Alliance marks a significant step forward in the fight against CVD. By joining forces, they aim to dismantle the misconceptions surrounding CVD and foster a collaborative approach to healthcare that ensures better outcomes for those affected by this condition.
