The Medical Device Industry Promotion Foundation (MEDIF) will hold the “International Joint Cooperation Seminar on Medical Device Technology and Standard Trends in Orthopedics between Korea and Brazil” based on the TC-Linked Cooperation Foundation for Pre-empting International Standards in Medical Devices” at COEX, southern Seoul, from 10 a.m. on Thursday.

The seminar will be held during KIMES (Korea International Medical & Hospital Equipment Show) 2024, a global knowledge-sharing platform that gathers experts in the medical field. The foundation said it is open to all those interested in global standards-based medical devices, including domestic companies and related research and development organizations.

This is the first international collaborative seminar to be held since Seoul National University Bundang Hospital signed a memorandum of understanding with the Osteointegration and Spinal Implants Committee of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) and the Laboratory of Biomechanics of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (LEBm-HU-UFSC) on July 27, 2023.

Under the theme of “Introduction to ISO/TC 150 (Surgical Implants) and Medical Device Trends and International Standardization Activities in Orthopedics,” it will introduce the latest technology and standard trends in orthopedics and ISO/TC 150 and share international standardization activities related to them.

At the seminar, the Korean side will introduce the latest technological advances in orthopedic implants, standards trends in artificial joints, and the latest technological advances and standards trends in stent delivery systems. From the Brazilian side, the sessions will cover osteosynthesis and spinal implants: technology trends and ISO/TC 150/SC 5 standard trends, and graft materials: technology trends and ISO/TC 150/SC 1 standard trends.

"The seminar will also present international standard trends in the orthopedic field (ISO TC 150) and a list of standards that need to be enacted in the future, which will promote exchanges and international cooperation between Korea and Brazil on technology and standards and will contribute significantly to the development of the medical device industry in both countries," said Hur Young, deputy chair of MEDIF.
