Boston Scientific said Monday that it would expand technical support for the Lumenis Pulse 120H Holmium Laser System based on the MOSES technology and further strengthen its leadership in stone treatment in Korea.

According to Boston Scientific, the company has recently enhanced the expertise of its Capital Equipment Technical Support Team (CETS) to provide reliable support for laser surgical devices used to treat stones, including the Lumenis Pulse 120H with Moses Technology.

The company’s CETS team supports the safe and efficient use of medical equipment through maintenance, overhaul, and on-site technical support. It has recruited personnel, completed training programs related to laser equipment, and acquired the LUMENIS P120H service certification from the headquarters to provide reliable technical support for stone treatment and optimal patient care based on its enhanced expertise, the company added.

The LUMENIS PULSE 120H is a laser system that can treat stones in the kidneys, bladder, ureters, and other organs and complements the limitations of conventional laser lithotripters through MOSES technology, which can be implemented with MOSES fiber.

MOSES technology applies the principle of dual irradiation, where the first wavelength cuts through the water around the stone, creating a path for the second wavelength to pass through without energy loss.

In a randomized clinical study comparing Moses technology with conventional laser lithotripsy, the time to stone crushing was 33 percent shorter, and the overall procedure time was 20 percent shorter in the Moses technology group.

"As urolithiasis is a disease that greatly affects patients' quality of life, we have recently introduced the Lumenis Pulse 120H at Severance Hospital to treat stones effectively," Professor Lee Ju-yong of Severance Hospital said. "We hope that insurance coverage for Moses technology will be available in Korea in the future so that patients who are difficult to treat with conventional lasers can receive improved treatment with Moses technology."

Choi Ho, senior vice president of the Urology Business Unit at Boston Scientific Korea, said, "Boston Scientific will continue to strengthen the stone treatment field in Korea through expanded technical support and services, as well as collaborating with medical staff and related societies to secure clinical data and improve the reimbursement environment.

Boston Scientific acquired Lumenis's global surgical business from Barings Private Equity Asia (BPEA) in September 2021 and launched Lumenis Pulse 120H in Korea in August 2022.
