Baxter Korea said that it launched its new automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) system, Homechoice Claria, for patients with chronic kidney disease Monday.

The device is for patients who need to get peritoneal dialysis, a renal replacement therapy performed by individuals at home. The device, touted as the smallest of all the APD systems in Korea, automates the peritoneal dialysis process, according to Baxter.

“Homechoice Claria has improved functions that make it easier and more comfortable for patients who need peritoneal dialysis on a daily basis at home so that they can ease the burden of treatment,” said Koo Hye-won, executive director of the medical department at Baxter Korea.

Baxter noted that Homechoice Claria is also equipped with ShareSource, a cloud-based connection platform that automatically relays a patient’s treatment information to a medical professional who can monitor the individual from a medical institution.

The automated device, usable at home and during travel, also has a self-correcting alarm that helps minimize the patient’s sleep by automatically controlling the therapy without additional adjustments should a problem occur, the company said.
